Books shape our world and provide children with a spectrum of ideas and stories which are waiting to be explored. That’s why John Madejski Academy is proud to be joining schools around the world in celebrating International School Library Month.

Organised globally by the International Association of Librarians, this month is an opportunity for children to learn more about books, knowledge, and the joy of the written word. The theme of this year’s event is ‘Why I Love My School Library’. Our school library is a calm and relaxing space for young people to develop unique interests and lose themselves in one of a great selection of books.

Primary: Literacy provides children with the building blocks for success. Weaker reading and writing skills are often damaging to other important academic and social skills. That is why we place such an emphasis on proficiency in literacy at our school. By establishing high standards in reading at an early age, our pupils are given a push towards success in their learning.

Secondary: Literacy plays a large part in children’s learning. Important academic and social skills can often be affected when reading and writing skills are poor. That is why we emphasise how important it is to read and write with ease. By strengthening their reading abilities, our students are enabled to succeed in education and their life after school.

We are excited to recognise this event and to celebrate librarians as we continue to promote the link between literacy, creativity, and academic progress.
